The Submariner is a self-winding mechanical movement timepiece. As the name suggests, it is a diver’s watch. And while most watches these days claim to be water ‘resistant’ up to a certain limit, this one prefers to be known for its ‘waterproofness’—up to 300 metres. Attribute this, in part, to its watertight Triplock winding crown system. The super sealing also keeps the movement safe from dust and moisture above water.

Triplock is only one aspect of this Rolex’s armour. It reputation comes from its Oyster case, which seals and shields the movement from shock and dust particles.
Accurately timing a dive is not just critical to coordination with partners, it is a vital safety feature. The Submariner makes it possible to time a dive to the last second, exactly, with its unidirectional bezel that rotates only counter-clockwise. This special feature ensures that an inadvertent brush does not lead a diver to miscalculate dive time. An error here could have a diver overestimate the amount of breathing-mix left in the tanks, which could prove perilous.

The watch is available in options of blue, black and green Cerachrom bezels. This material is extremely hard and corrosion resistant. Its colour is invulnerable to ultraviolet rays and is virtually scratchproof.

The Glidelock clasp on its bracelet ensures that this diver’s watch is as comfortable with a wet suit as with a dinner jacket. It lets the diver adjust the bracelet—in 2 mm increments—to fit snugly over a 3 mm thick diving suit. All in all, it’s the wet dream of anyone who has dunked him/herself deep underwater and complained of losing all track of time.
