Taj Restored

Two much-loved hangouts of the Mumbai elite, housed in the Taj Mahal hotel, have risen triumphantly from their ashes.

This is more than a comeback, it’s a resurrection. Thirteen months after the Taj Mahal, one of the epicenters of the Mumbai 26/11 attacks, was turned into a theatre of terror, there’s been a determined return to normalcy. This December, The Harbour Bar the first licensed bar in India and Wasabi by Morimoto, the first signature Japanese eatery, returned to life. Re-imagined by a team of architects, artists and designers form the Rockwell Group Europe, The Harbour Bar’s demure entrance has been transformed into a large portico that ushers you into an intimate art deco space dominated by a timelessly elegant single solid marble counter. Wasabi has been recast as a magic box, with a bold origami staircase that leads you into one of the most spectacular private dining rooms in India: a sculptural cocoon, visible all the way from Apollo Bunder promenade.
