Guests of the royal wedding will be gifted scarves from Ludhiana.
When the UK’s Prince William takes his vows with Kate Middleton on 29 April, guests of the royal wedding will be gifted scarves from Ludhiana. Centex Exports, the Ludhiana based high-end luxury exports company that counts Burberry, Escada and Mulberry as its clients, was chosen to make the scarves some five months ago. Vineet Sood, managing director, Centex, says the royal brief was simple: the scarves should carry a whiff of strong English heritage and there should not be any size issue. The UK-based online fashion store Boden was commissioned with the task of finding the right supplier. “I believe people from Boden met with a lot of companies in Korea, China and elsewhere, but they chose us because of our reputation. Their confidence was reinforced when they saw the design during the trial run. They simply loved it!” says Sood. Designers at Centex have superimposed the Union Jack on leopard skin prints to give the scarf a modern and sophisticated touch. The design has been screen printed on the finest merino wool. “We have already supplied 4,000 pieces and are in the process of sending the remaining 30 to 40 per cent of the scarves. This is a limited edition collection—mostly meant as gifts to guests. However, a few pieces will be made available to the public by Boden,” says Sood.
