Police on dusk patrol at Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, are scared of two-wheelers: the state home minister could be in one of them. Tako Dabi simply hops on to a motorcycle as pillion rider of a security guard and goes around the streets to ensure that cops are doing their job. Dabi told scribes recently that he has seen many cops napping and absent from posts. He forwarded his observations to the police chief. Dabi, incidentally, would much rather have cops taking a swig or two on duty than not reporting at work at all. A little alcohol, he told scribes, does wonders for a man’s health. The minister admitted that he too likes his tipple. But everyone should, he declared, do his duty even after drinking. Like him—every evening on the streets of Itanagar.
