Zeenat Ara, 28, was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) when she was eight months old. It is her belief in God that gives her the willpower to face her debilitating ailment, says her father. Except for the time she spends sitting in her customised wheelchair, Zeenat is completely bed-ridden. A resident of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, she recently published her autobiography, The Real Fighter Zeenat Ara, where she has written of her silent battle against the disease. The book is her effort to increase awareness of SMA, which is a rare genetic disorder in India
