Thirty five-year-old Sant Gopal Das has been sitting in protest at Jantar Mantar with his supporters since 24 February 2014. Having already protested at more than seven locations—including a hunger strike at one—Das is demanding the implementation of a Supreme Court directive that 5 per cent of village land be reserved as cattle pastures. Illegal encroachment by land mafias has meant that this reservation is not being honoured.
