A slum boy keeps vigil as Janaki, 6, and her grandmother look out of the doorway of their hut in Dhobi Ghat, Delhi Cantt. Janaki lost her young father in this summer’s heat wave. The slum has no water, no power supply and no other civic amenities. In the run-up to Delhi’s Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised to provide those essentials, but has now backtracked saying the area is defence land, under the supervision of the Central Government
