For the last 20 years, Sachin Tendulkar has remained a constant, vital component of Indian cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for India on 15 November 1989, against Pakistan in Karachi. Rajiv Gandhi was prime minister then. A US dollar was approximately worth Rs 17. India has had eight other PMs since. The dollar now fetches about Rs 50. But Tendulkar remains a constant, vital component of Indian cricket.
At a function in Mumbai, 36-year-old Tendulkar said, “On my first tour, Kapil Dev said to me that I must play Test cricket for India for ten years,” adding, “I’ve played twenty.”
And he’s still not done. He wants to win the 2011 World Cup for India. From teenage tornado to marathon man, Tendulkar has proved himself to be the game’s complete man.
