An enterprising couple has come up with a way to make children more generous with the gifts they receive. Sharemycake.org isn’t yet up and running, but this is how it will work: for his or her birthday, a child can pledge a certain share of the gifts for charity. The service then emails this to all the prospective ‘donors’, who can gift the child through the website—which also deducts a small service charge. If the child pledges 33 per cent to his chosen charity, the service will send the rother 66 per cent to the child. And why will kids go for it? Because the only gift they get by this channel is going to be hard cash. We’ll hazard a guess that it makes a lot of kids very happy.
