Indian in the Satellite Hall of Fame

The former chief of Isro UR Rao was recently inducted into Washington DC’s Satellite Hall of Fame.
UR Rao, former chief of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and former secretary, Department of Space, has become the first Indian to be inducted into the Satellite Hall of Fame in Washington DC by the Society of Satellite Professionals International in the US, reported IANS. Shortly after his induction, ISRO issued a statement: ‘Rao is the first Indian space scientist to be inducted into the Satellite Hall of Fame and joins the select group of about 50 members, including Arthur C Clarke, Van Allen, Harold Rosen, Peter Jackson and Robert Berry, among others.’ Rao, who is known for the creation of India’s space and satellite capabilities, has promoted the use of space technology for broadcasting, education, meteorology, remote sensing and disaster alerts. He has also worked on developing Indian rocket technology and helped launch the ASLV rocket in 1992.
He is currently chairman of the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
