South Korea Junks Junk Food Ads

Alarmed at rising obesity levels among children, the South Korean government has prohibited junk food advertisements between 5 pm and 7 pm—hours when children are most likely to be watching TV.

AC Nielsen surveys conducted in India also say junk food consumption by children peaks between 5 pm and 7 pm. So if patterns of junk food eating and TV viewing habits are universal, advertisers are definitely getting their money’s worth, and children, unhealthier. Wonder if India’s health minister is listening.
