At a recent awards function in Delhi, the fashionably late got a reality check. ‘Star Nite Awards 2011’ was organised to hail the achievements of resellers of infotech products and services. The invited sponsors and businessmen—all big shots in their fields—seemed disinclined to make it on time. The chief guest, Shankar Aggarwal, additional secretary, Department of Infotech, Government of India, was getting restless because the 6.30 pm event was nowhere near starting even at 7 pm. When he got up to leave, shocked organisers were seen desperately trying to placate him. The ceremonial lamp was lit 10 minutes later with many industry big shots still missing.
