Remember Baba Sehgal’s Thanda thanda pani, or Daler Mehendi’s onomatopoeic classics like Tunak tunak tun? Things could change after Nine, India’s first “writer-led” band.
Remember Baba Sehgal’s Thanda thanda pani, or Daler Mehendi’s onomatopoeic classics like Tunak tunak tun? Things could change after Nine, India’s first “writer-led” band. A four member group brought together by Neelesh Misra, a journalist, author and Bollywood lyricist, Nine promises to emphasise songwriting. “Our band is the revenge of the writer,” says Misra, who’s had a successful stint as a lyricist with films like Gangster, Jism and Jannat. Along with Misra, the band has more Bollywood experience in lead singer Shilpa Rao, the voice of popular hits like Khuda Jaane from Bachna Ae Haseenon. Nine will debut in Mumbai this week with a performance at the Kala Ghoda festival.
