Fashion and orthodoxy are fighting it out in France. First Lady Carla Bruni, a one-time nude model, recently broke the law by wearing her clothes.
To be more specific, she flouted the law by wearing trousers at the Elysee Palace. A 200-year-old decree still bans women from wearing trousers there unless they have ‘specific authorisation’.
All this, in a country that has banned Muslim women from wearing a burkha. Enslavement should well be fully erased from the Elysee Palace first. Especially now that floppy trousers are en vogue.
